The pretty port of Marseillan in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the south of France is home to the cellars and the visitor center of a little-known but select French vermouth named Noilly Prat (rather difficult to say but roughly pronounced "nwaii prat"). Joseph Noilly created the original Noilly Prat Dry in 1813 in the city of Lyon and his unique outdoor ageing technique is still in use today.

What is Noilly Prat?

There are three varieties of the drink: the original Dry which can be enjoyed neat or as an ingredient in a number of cocktails, Noilly Prat Rouge or red which is sweeter and enhanced with flavors of nutmeg, cinchona and cloves and Noilly Prat Ambré or amber. The third variety is exclusively available for purchase from the cellars in Marseillan so if you want to show off, you know which one to bring back from your trip!
